Beta Theta receives Chapter Excellence Award for 2010-2011

The Beta Theta Chapter at TCU received the “Chapter Excellence Award” from the Phi Kappa Sigma International Fraternity for the 2010-2011 academic year. Only the top performing Phi Kap chapters in the nation receive this award.

The chapter also received the following awards: “Recruitment Excellence, Most Initiates” and “Recruitment Excellence, Percent Growth” (Runner-Up). All awards are evaluated and chosen through the International Fraternity’s standards program, Mitchell Chapter Standards, which evaluates chapters based on scholarship, membership development, financial management, community service and philanthropy, chapter management, and alumni/campus involvement.

Beta Theta senior wins scholarship award

Cole Frederick has been awarded the Foundation Scholarship Award from the Phi Kappa Sigma Foundation. Frederick is an accounting and finance double major from Granbury, TX. He is currently working for CBS Radio Dallas and expects to graduate from TCU next year.

Phi Kap initiates 31 new members from PC ‘10

Thirty-one members from one of the largest pledge classes in recent history were initiated in January. PC ‘10 was lead by Pledge Class President and Beta Theta legacy, Tommy Pasisis. The pledge class was challenged by the active chapter to improve upon the new member class average GPA from the previous year. They did just that. We are pleased to report that the average GPA of the new initiates is 2.96. On behalf of the active and alumni members of Phi Kappa Sigma, congratulations PC ‘10!

Phi Kap elected to IFC Executive Board

Beta Theta sophomore Zach Kadletz has been elected to the Executive Board of TCU’s Interfraternity Council (IFC). Kadletz will serve a one year term as Vice President of Recruitment.

Beta Theta juniors Mitchell Melhorn and Kevin Peters are completing their terms on the IFC Executive Board. Melhorn leaves IFC as its Vice President of Programming and Scholarship to lead Phi Kappa Sigma as its President. Peters served IFC as the Vice President of Public Relations.

Beta Theta member featured in the Wall Street Journal

Phi Kappa Sigma member Steven Crandall previously won the TCU Texas Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Crandall was awarded the grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship and was featured in a Wall Street Journal article.

The TCU Texas Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Program is a scholarship program that recognizes young high school age entrepreneurs for their success in business. The award is open to any Texas high school student who has started and managed a business. The student must be the owner, founder or controlling shareholder of the business and principally responsible for its operation.

The Phi Kappa Sigma Beta Theta Chapter has added 35 new members this semester. Congratulations to Rush Chair Josh Borders and the whole chapter on a very successful recruitment over the summer and during formal rush. Everyone did their part in recruiting these fine gentleman and we know that they will all play a key role in the future for Phi Kappa Sigma. This upcoming semester should prove to be very exciting for the Beta Theta Chapter and its ongoing success at TCU.

The Beta Theta Chapter is also proud to bring home five awards from Phi Kappa Sigma’s 95th Grand Chapter. Awards received are Chapter Excellence, Most Improved Chapter, Recruitment Excellence, Best Website, and National Volunteer of the Year.

The new member class of Phi Kappa Sigma won first place overall in Anchor Splash 2009! Anchor Splash is the annual philanthropy held by the ladies of Delta Gamma benefitting Service for Sight.
